2018 Scholarships

The Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa (LDA-IA) will award three scholarships to Iowa high school seniors who plan to enroll in post-secondary education (college or vocational) in the fall of 2018. The scholarships are to assist graduating seniors with learning disabilities (LD) in pursuing a post-secondary education.

2018 LDA-IA SCHOLARSHIPS: Two scholarships will be offered to students graduating from any Iowa high school. One is membership-based.

2018 SIOUX CITY SCHOLARSHIP: One scholarship will be offered to a student graduating from a Sioux City high school.

2018 LEARNING DISABILITIES ASSOCIATION OF IOWA SCHOLARSHIP

Application Form

Description
The scholarships are to assist graduating seniors with learning disabilities* in pursuing a post-secondary education at an accredited institution which provides:

  • a two or four year college program, or
  • vocational training

* Verification of a learning disability is required (see application form)Students served solely under Section 504, or with primary disabilities other than LD (e.g. Autism), will not be eligible for these scholarships.

Number and Amount
Two scholarships valued at $500 each will be awarded:

  • Membership-based scholarship will be awarded to an applicant who meets one of the following requirements:
    •  Applicant is a current member of LDA.
    •  Applicant’s parent is a current member of LDA.
    •  Applicant is recommended in writing by a current member of LDA.
  • An At-Large scholarship will be awarded. Preference will be given to applicants who meet any of the membership requirements listed above.

Payment
After receiving proof of enrollment, $150 will be paid to the student.  After receiving proof that the student has completed vocational training or the first full-time year of study, the remainder of the scholarship, $350, will be paid.

Application Deadline
Recipients will be selected from applications that have been postmarked no later than March 31, 2018.

Scholarship recipients will first be notified by phone and then announced May 10th on this page.


2018 SIOUX CITY LEARNING DISABILITY SCHOLARSHIP

Application Form-Sioux City

Donors from Sioux City have funded this scholarship, which will be awarded to a high school senior in Sioux City who plans to enroll in post-secondary education (college or vocational) in the fall of 2018.

Description
The scholarships are to assist graduating seniors with learning disabilities* in pursuing a post-secondary education at an accredited institution which provides:

  • a two or four year college program, or
  • vocational training

One scholarship valued at $500 will be awarded to a 2018 graduate of Sioux City West, East, North, or Heelan High School.

  • Preference will be given to scholarship applicants who meet one of the following requirements:
    • Applicant is a current member of LDA.
    • Applicant’s parent is a current member of LDA.
    • Applicant is recommended in writing by a current member of LDA.

Applicants from Sioux City who complete the 2018 Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa Scholarship application will also be considered for the Sioux City Learning Disability Scholarship.
