Iowa touts early warning literacy system, but questions remain

In a press conference on Thursday, March 9th, officials from the Iowa Department of Education released new information on Iowa’s statewide “early warning” literacy system, drawing attention to the improved reading skills of nearly 9,000 kindergarten through third grade students. In the newly published report for 2015-2016, however, proficiency rates in a large percentage of schools showed a decline. ┬áState and education leaders say they remain committed to early literacy efforts.
