This fall, as the leaves change and a new school year begins, I’m filled with optimism and gratitude for our community. For 57 years, the Learning Disabilities Association of Iowa has been a beacon of support, a testament to our unwavering commitment to individuals with learning disabilities, their families, and the professionals who guide them.
October is Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, a perfect time to celebrate the unique strengths within our community and highlight the resources we offer. We are particularly excited to host free webinars on Executive Functioning for both teachers and parents. These sessions are a fantastic opportunity to gain practical strategies and a deeper understanding of how the brain processes information, which is at the core of a learning disability. As we know, a learning disability is a neurodevelopmental difference that can impact skills like reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), and math (dyscalculia), but it never defines a person’s intelligence or potential.
We firmly believe that parents are a child’s best advocate, and we are here to support, educate, and empower you. If you have questions about advocating for your child, please don’t hesitate to contact LDA-Iowa. We are here to help. I also encourage you to check out our comprehensive Parent Guide at https://ldaiowa.org/lda-of-iowas-parenting-guide/.
Your support is the lifeblood of our organization. It allows us to continue providing vital resources and advocacy. By joining our organization for just $55, you help us continue this crucial work. Thank you for being a part of this worthy cause. Let’s continue to build a world where every person with a learning disability feels seen, understood, and empowered.
