The use of AI can be a useful tool for educators and parents. Uses in a classroom might include making activities and creating worksheets so that all students can participate with grade level content. Teachers can use and modify grade systems, project requirements and lesson plans. The list can go on and on. As an educator, I have specifically used AI to develop personalized social stories (behavior), write stories on a student’s preferred topic on a lower reading level (reading) and create a Mad Libs form for a student who wanted to be a YouTuber (writing).
Parents may want to use AI to help their child study for an exam, make flashcards, practice vocabulary words, get organized or just play an educational game.
Here are some apps that are free and frequently used in education:
ChatGPT: Ask ChatGPT a question or give it a request. It will respond. Find it at https://chatgpt.com.
Magic School: This AI generator for teachers and students includes almost all the features for education. Find it at https://www.magicschool.ai.
Canva: This program allows users to create a wide variety of publications, such as presentations, posters and more. Teachers and students can ask it to create a presentation on a topic. Find it at https://www.canva.com.
These are just a few of the AI apps that are available on the internet. It’s important to remember that the information that is presented on an AI app still needs to be fact checked. We continue to learn how this technology will be integrated into our classrooms and the world of education as it continues to develop. As always, technology is just one strategy that educators and parents can use to help their students.
