In our search we found some writers using the term Quick-Fix Parenting. We had not heard this expression previously so we decided to grow our own parenting skills. We were glad we did because some of us who were older had experienced this. Plus, we had many friends who had similar experiences.
Yes, almost all parents have used the Quick-Fix model when tired and totally frustrated over a specific behavior that has occurred. But we have learned this is a no-no model to use if a parent uses it over a long period of time.

In our search we found that ineffective parents who fail to make an effort or take the time to learn and apply ways that confirm their love for their children may wind up relying on what is referred to as a Quick-Fix Parenting strategy. “Quick-Fix is exactly like it sounds—a quick fix to a problem. It is reactive and spontaneous. Quick-Fix Parenting is not a healthy fix or an empowering fix, and it is definitely not an effective long-term strategy. It focuses on fixing your kid’s problem behavior, usually through verbal reprimands (often out of anger or frustration), negative instruction, and discipline for the sake of compliance. Using quick fixes to solve problems does not help kids grow up to become healthy and independent young adults.

What about you? Do you frequently find yourself using Quick-Fix Parenting? If you do, that’s OK for now. Most parents start here…but we don’t want you to stay here. Instead, we’d like to suggest that there’s a better way to navigate through the parenting landmines we all face with an intentional approach and that approach is a purposeful approach to raising children that focuses on building strong, positive relationships, nurturing their emotional well-being and instilling values and morals.
