When we looked for information about building positive relationships, we found much of it included information about intentional interactions. This should be expected because interactions are the foundation for building positive relationships with our children and the behavior parents model during these interactions will determine if the relationship will be positive, negative or neutral. One writer stated:
“…that all that you will do – when addressing the unpleasant, stressful problem – is ultimately about nurturing that relationship. In fact, it has been said that 90 percent of the interactions you have with your child should be about connecting so that your child will accept the other 10 percent that involves correcting. (Shaw, 2015)” 1
In our search to learn more about parent-child relationships we selected the following article because the findings agree with what is known about the outcomes related to both intentional interactions and building positive relationships: Parenting 101: What You Must Know About Raising Kids.
