LDA of Iowa's Parenting Guide: Part One

Section 4: Learning About Intentional Interactions & Related Topics

When we hear the words intentional interactions we tend to think of activities the parent and child do together, such as doing chores, teaching your child the steps for making her/his bed, cooking or having discussions during family meals.

Yes, these interactions are important, but there is much more to learn about intentional interactions and how important these interactions are because every interaction between parents and their children…

"influences how children learn, grow, and feel about themselves. Positive, intentional and reciprocal (back & forth) interactions contribute the best outcomes for children and children are happier, healthier, more confident, and excited to learn when adults nurture relationships and interactions.” 1

Our parent-child interactions will also determine if our relationships are positive, negative or neutral. When we build positive relationships with our children, we are increasing the possibility of raising adults who care about themselves, their family and others in the community. 2
